It has become a nice tradition that a majority of the movie makers take part in the awards ceremony and the dicussion with our jury and manage to make their way to Ostrava from remote parts of the country or even from Poland and Slovakia. This year’s ceremony wasn’t an exception to the rule. Over 80 people and one dog gathered in the cosy Klub Atlantik hall.
After a small refreshment and the opening speech of the festival director Jiří Hruška, the jury took over for about two hours to inform all the participants about the most important decisions after each winning film projection. Why was it exactly this film? Why did they find it interesting? How did the authors manage to be so good, creative, precise and how did they manage to be themselves?
The jury members, Zuzana Gindl-Tatárová (SK), Beata Dzon (PL) and Tomáš Petráň (CZ) were nice, warm, professional, witty and willing to have a debate. Their comments were carefully listened to by the whole hall. Everybody felt nicely and it was spoken highly of the authors. In the end, the best ones were awarded (as it is usual at Ostrava-Picture) with valuable prizes (projector, monitor, tablet, printing machine, media player etc.) and specialities (a traditional “Tarakan film notebook” and for the first time also shirts with this year’s motto).
Now, enough has been said, let’s have a look at the winners!
The last category originated during the jury’s decisions as no picture has participated in the “Movies from the r/edge/ion” category. Therefore, the jury decided to create a separate category for animations evaluation.

This year´s spot reminds us that the time behind a camera runs at the same pace as anywhere else... and school, gals, dudes, temporary part-time jobs or friendly helping out often distract from intensive creation. You´ll probably never catch up what you´ve missed when you were hot for the lens and ideas were dancing around... Or maybe? Don´t despair, grab the camera and head out as the dead line of the competition isn´t until the 9th of October!
